A few days ago I wrote about the old tradition of the “Snow on the Dogwoods” as a sign of the arrival of spring. Well, later that day, I did indeed verify that the Dogwood on our property had blossomed already when the snow descended that morning. The snow had melted by the time I discovered this, but I took some quick photos of the flowers, which I’ll post as an addendum as soon as they’re uploaded here you can view below.
This evening I walked around the property with my good friend and companion, our happy orange tabby Yeshi (of whom you’ve already seen several photos on this site). We discovered that, wonder of wonders, the Spider Wort from last year has returned (again photos to follow later photo added below), that the Magnolia has lots of new growth on it, that the Italian Plumb and the Cherry Trees in the orchard are all in full bloom. The aroma of the Cherry Blossoms was indeed heady. Alas, the brave oak sprout from last year did not survive. Nature is stern and life is precious. No doubt the soul of the little oak will return swiftly, and resume its earthly journey.
