Sky Smiles Blue

the blue of sky
makes it seem the sky
is a thing itself —

but it is not.
Empty as a crystal bowl
the sky’s blue is the sun’s

which sky has cleaved
in its love of sun
and thrown up as a gown

about its nakedness.
When the sky smiles blue
it is the sun’s smile.
